Hi, I’m Matt
I've spent my career at the intersection of information, experience, and systems, working across eCommerce, content strategy, and UX design, and serving the community as Director of Design and Implementation at CultureVerse, a technology nonprofit I helped found.
For over six years I've taught Experience Design and Information Architecture in Northwestern University's Information Design & Strategy master's program, where I also serve as faculty director of the UX/UI specialization. I teach this material because I genuinely love it: the frameworks, the edge cases, the messy real-world problems that don't fit the textbook. Diving deep into how information moves through an organization and finding the leverage points where small changes make big differences is not work to me. That's just how my brain works.
I founded Future States because the same problem keeps showing up everywhere, in nonprofits, businesses, education, and the arts. Organizations have the knowledge they need. It just isn't reaching the right people, in the right form, at the right moment. That gap is almost always solvable. It just takes someone willing to look at the whole system.
Future States is lean by design. When a project calls for it, I bring in trusted developers and project managers I've worked with and rely on. And I'm at my best working alongside your team. Collaborating with the people who know your organization from the inside is how the best solutions get built.
